CHICAGO – A young boy who was cut from the belly of a Chicago woman with a butcher knife died Friday in a hospital where he was in serious condition since the April attack that killed his mother, family spokespersons said.

Family spokeswoman Cecilia Garcia confirmed a family statement posted on Facebook that Marlen Ochoa-Lopez’s 19-year-old baby died at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A statement from the family’s spokeswoman, Julie Contreras, expressed “great sadness” in announcing the death of Yovanny Jadiel López and said she died of a serious brain injury.

The baby had been on life support for more than a month and the family had been weighing whether or not to remove it from life support, but Garcia said the child simply died early Friday morning.
The Christ Medical Center said in a statement that their “hearts and prayers” are with the Ochoa-Lopez family, and that their “courage and grace have attracted the admiration of our entire organization.”

Prosecutors say Clarisa Figueroa, 46, said she had given birth to the baby when she took him to the hospital on April 23. Figueroa and her 24-year-old daughter, Desiree Figueroa, were charged with murder in the death of Ochoa-López. Clarisa Figueroa’s boyfriend, Piotr Bobak, is accused of hiding a homicide.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Friday he expects both women to be charged with murder in the baby’s death.

The three defendants must return to court on June 26.

Authorities say that not long after Clarisa Figueroa’s adult son died of natural causes, she told her family she was pregnant. They say that he spent months to acquire a newborn and that he published an ultrasound and pictures of a room decorated for a baby on his Facebook page. In March, she and Ochoa-Lopez connected on a Facebook page for pregnant women.

The two met for the first time in person around April 1, when Ochoa-Lopez went to the Figueroas’ home and escaped unharmed, prosecutors allege. The teenager returned on April 23 to accept Clarisa Figueroa’s offer of free baby clothes, and while Desiree Figueroa showed Ochoa-Lopez a photo album of her late brother to distract her, Clarisa Figueroa snuck up behind her and the Strangled with a cord.

Once Ochoa-López stopped showing signs of life, Clarisa Figueroa took the baby from her womb and she and her daughter wrapped the body of the adolescent in a blanket, put it in a plastic bag and dragged it to a boat. garbage, according to prosecutors.

Later that day, Clarisa Figueroa called 911 and said her newborn baby was not breathing. When the first responders arrived, the child was blue. They tried to resuscitate the infant and took him to the Christ Medical Center, where he remained until his death.
