LONDON – British police say four teenagers have been accused of assaulting two women who claim to have been beaten on a London bus because they are lesbians.

The London metropolitan police force said Thursday that four male suspects between 15 and 17 had been charged with a crime of aggravated hatred under the Law of Public Order.

The names of the suspects were not disclosed due to their age.

Melania Geymonat posted an image on her Facebook page that shows her bloody face and that of her girlfriend after the May 30 attack. She said the couple received a punch after being mocked and told her to kiss.

The incident provoked a wide condemnation, with Prince William among those who expressed their shock at the attack.
