A virus similar to the Sars pathogen has claimed more than 100 lives since it emerged in a market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan and spread throughout the world.
The total includes the first death in Beijing, the Chinese capital, and in Hubei province, where the first diseases of the newly identified coronavirus occurred in December.
The virus has caused an alarm because it is too early to know how dangerous it is and how easily it spreads between people. Chinese officials say the incubation time can vary from one to 14 days, and it is contagious at that time.
